IFGS stands for the International Fantasy Gaming
Society, and is based on a group of the same name in the novels DREAMPARK, THE BARSOOM PROJECT, and THE CALIFORNIA
VOODOO GAME by Larry Niven and Steve Barnes. This non-profit organization promotes, designs, and runs
Live Role Playing Games, complete with rules for safe combat, spellcasting, and other fantasy elements. A
strong emphasis is placed on safety, roleplaying, and staying "in character" during a game event. Games are of the
highest quality because they are put through a sanctioning process, which checks game design, logistics, and
safety so that you can enjoy your game experience without worry.
The latest edition of the IFGS Rules Book covers all
aspects of a game from creating characters, costuming, fighting, spell casting, weapons construction, and more. The
live combat rules are fast and simple to resolve, making any fight exciting and memorable. Any touch scores a hit,
which encourages a finesse style of combat. But bring more than your sword! It is seldom that you will win the day
without your wits.
Player characters have eight classes to choose from:
Fighter, Ranger, Knight, Cleric, Magic User, Druid, Thief (Rogue), and Monk. Each character class has distinct
abilities which are gained by levels. The IFGS keeps a record of all characters, including experience, level, gold,
and items found. This way, you can play any of your characters in any IFGS chapter.
Meet with members of the IFGS and see what all the
excitement is about. You may play in your first two games without even becoming a member. But once you've experienced
all that we have to offer, becoming a member will be an easy decision. The cost of membership is only $10 for one year.
With membership, you will receive the IFGS Society Newsletter, The Chainmail, and chapter membership. (Plus, it keeps
the IRS happy with our non-profit social club status.)
The IFGS began in 1982 in Colorado and has since grown
to 18 chapters and provisional chapters in Alabama, California, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusets, Ohio, Oklahoma,
Texas, and Wisconsin.
